He later became close friends with George Harrison and in 1988, they collaborated with Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne to form The Traveling Wilburys. Petty made his fortune as a highly successful musician, songwriter and performer, both as a solo artist and with his band, ‘Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ which was formed in 1976.
