SCREENING + DISCUSSION WITH THE DIRECTOR

A South Africa-US co-produced documentary Zulu Return that features one of the pioneers of hip hop movement Afrika Bambaataa and Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. Zulu Return is a story about Universal Zulu Nation that exists in New York and other parts of America, the director’s struggles to accept herself as a Zulu woman, and Afrika Bambaataa coming to Africa.

The director will give us the honor of being present during the screening of her film.

But when Colonel Honorine is transferred to Kisangani, she must start over from scratch. Shortly after arriving in her new post, dozens of victims of sexual violence from the 6-Day War between Rwandan and Ugandan troops, land in her office. Thus begins a new challenge for the Colonel who is determined to fight for the recognition and support of these forgotten women, these outdated lives.

Underground visual artists, musicians and performers create out of nothing, using recycled objects and their own bodies to express their anger, but also their dreams for change. Despite the constant harassment of the authorities, the strong taboos of a traditional society and the personal struggles of the artists, the movement can no longer be stopped.
