Students will learn about art glass, its history, influences, and processes. Guided by experts Rose and Marlene, the class create and fire a wearable 1.5” x 2” glass postcard of St. Augustine or any subject matter of their choice. The wearable art will be placed on either a necklace bail or a pin clasp.
Marlene Zullig is a local and international award-winning artist who has been working with stained glass and metal for over 35 years. Marlene’s work is an eclectic mix of functional art, such as mosaic mirrors, vessels, jewelry, and lamps and one-of-a-kind stained-glass windows, panels, mosaic wall art, and fused glass pieces. Her work reflects a sense of eminent care and attention to detail from the hand-cut, high-quality stained glass that she uses to create her art to the handmade frames she makes to fit each of her custom pieces. Marlene’s work graces homes and businesses both here and abroad.
Rose Hawley’s career in glass art was serendipitous. Starting off making pottery, she began to melt wine bottles in her ceramic kiln at the suggestion of a colleague. After slumping over 200,000 wine bottles sold nationwide as hanging cheeseboards, the glass art bug had firmly bitten Rose. She began her art glass education through frequent trips to Bullseye Glass Factory in Portland, Oregon, and traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe, visiting and collaborating with experimental glass artists. As a member of PAStA Fine Art Gallery Rose’s glass vessels, sculptures and jewelry reflect her love of nature and the coastal lifestyle.
