- **Event Description**: The Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra returns to the DJC stage for a concert that puts the “Big” into “Big Band”. Following their tribute concert series featuring the works of Gershwin, Ellington and Cole Porter, the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra embarks on an exploration of Big Band music after the Swing era as bands transitioned from so-called “dance bands” to the modern concert big bands of today.

With repertoire from the likes of the Buddy Rich Big Band (Nutville), Maynard Ferguson (Birdland, Besame Mucho), Arturo Sandoval (Funky Cha Cha, Closely Dancing), and vocal numbers that featured Diane Schuur, the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra are Tuning Up - both in the musical sense, where tuning is important for any group - but also in the mechanical sense; tuning up their engine for a fast-paced, high-energy performance.

Mike Gaches - lead trumpet for the DCJO - provided much of the music from this concert from his Big Band days back in America. He and fellow trumpet master Ralph Miller will showcase their exceptional soloing, along with the Musical Director Nick Cornish (alto), multi-instrumentalist Elliot Tay (tenor, clarinet), and joined by guest drummer - and DJC regular - Carl Woodward. Join the DCJO as they Tune Up to the modern age and put pedal to the metal this August.
