Come and learn reduction carving techniques using soap with artist Ngaroma Riley (Te Rarawa, Te Aupōuri, Pākehā).
Ngaroma will discuss tikaka around carving and explain the ancestral form and function of the koruru mask. Participants will develop skills and techniques for working in three dimensions using simple and safe tools. These skills are widely applicable across various media and provide a foundation for large-scale work.
This workshop is aimed at beginners but can be tailored to suit those with more experience.
Tickets are $10, with all the tools and materials provided to create your very own soap carving.
Suitable for ages 12 + (children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult).
Ngaroma Riley is a founder of Te Ana o Hine, a wahine-led carving shed based at Te Tuhi in Tāmaki Makaurau.
