Scooter Division's longest regular ride - over 200km through epic natural and historic scenery... 🙂
MEET: 9am, Mosgiel Z petrol station, fuelled up and READY TO DEPART at 9.30am (town folk are welcome to meet at Vogel St and head out as a group at 8.45am).
ROUTE: Mosgiel-Middlemarch-Macraes-Dunback-Palmerston-Dunedin
Over the hills of other-worldly rock formations, through Strath Taieri valley, to a lunch stop at the historic Stanley Hotel, maybe a side trip look at the goldmine, re-group at Palmerston Shell station, and back down the coast road. likely stopping for a bum rest, well earned cold refreshment, and to talk some smack at ARC Brewery near Warrington 🙂
PETROL will be available at 4 points on the route. Note, most are CARD-ONLY (so don't forget your EFT-POS etc card).
50cc SUITABILITY? 50cc scoots/bikes are welcome and have done this ride before, the schedule is based on a 60kph average, and there is also two small but unavoidable sections of SH1 (but are mostly pretty wide, so there's room to ride on the side of the road).
GRAVEL: There are two gravel sections, both are OPTIONAL. One is a short side trip to the goldmine. And the other be avoided by bypassing via Hyde (though is a longer route).
SUPPORT VEHICLE: It is hoped to have a support vehicle for breakdowns etc (not yet confirmed), but it will have limited capacity, so a space is not guaranteed - hence, PLEASE...
GIVE YOUR SCOOT/BIKE A ONCE OVER to make sure there's NO PREVENTABLE SHOW STOPPERS about to happen with it, or unnecessary delays for repairs of predictable issues. Bring tools/spares/zip-ties if you have them.
RAIN DAY: an alternative weather date/time may be set if necessary; so CHECK THIS EVENT PAGE BEFORE HEADING OFF on the morning. We'll try and make the call the Friday evening for peeps traveling in from out of town (but weather doesn't always play nice and predictably down here).
OUT of TOWN PEEPS: make yourselves known on this event page, and odds are the local lads will be keen to arrange a quiet Saturday night ride/drinks/etc.
