- **Event Description**: Join our research workshop to discuss and explore new ways to manage data in the Scottish creative industriesAbout this EventAre you a creative professional or artist based in Scotland? We want to hear from you!As part of a research project, we are hosting a series of workshops across Scotland to explore how together we can make the management of data in creative industries fairer, more inclusive and more sustainable. What do we mean with dataSocial media comments and reactions, website analytics, number of streams and viewings on online platforms, statistics on gamers and watchers: these are just some examples of data that can become a useful resource for artists and creative professionals. But often this data is hard to access, use, or understand. And this can have negative effects for creatives and artists, when their data is being used by others (including digital platforms and artificial intelligence), without proper compensation. In this project, we want to enter in discussion with creatives and artists to understand that we can do, together, to improve how data is managed in the Scottish creative industries. How you can help usBy joining one of our workshops funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh, you will be asked to share your experience and views on how you manage data as part of your creative work. Then, together with the other participants, you will contribute to developing new ways to manage data to the benefit of Scottish creatives and artists. You do not need to be an expert in data. We want to hear from people active in different creative industries, with various levels of expertise around data. What you can expect from usThe workshop will last between 2.30 and 3 hours, including some lunch (on us). You will also receive a £25 voucher as compensation for your contribution!By joining us, you will have an opportunity to delve further into these matters and have your voice heard. At the end of this project, we will produce a report to be shared with the Scottish government and other industry stakeholders. With your contribution, our ambition is to inspire better policies and practices to improve the working conditions of creative professionals. We are also part of a global network of researchers and activities promoting a fairer digital economy. Your insights will contribute to this debate, both in Scotland and internationally. This workshop is part of a research project led by Edinburgh Napier University and funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
