This is a hands-on introduction to laser cutting for designers. Learning how to use laser cutting in your creative or production process. e.g, scale figures and furniture for model making run by experts at FabLabWhen: Wednesday June 24th, 11am - 3pmWhere: FabLab at Creative Spark, Clontygora Ct, Muirhevnamore, Dundalk, Co. Louth, A91 HF77. ISPD will arrange transport from Dundalk train stationWorkshop OutcomesDevelop skills to identify suitable designs, materials, and limitations for laser cutting. You will learn how to prepare 2D artwork for cutting/ engraving. Attendees will gain confidence to use laser cutting/engraving for future projects. Assembling cut figures or furniture pieces.FormatA half-day workshop that includes an introduction, live demonstration, hands-on prototyping, workflow discussion, and Q&A. Places at this workshop will be extremely limited; keep an eye on our socials to make sure you get a spot!Cost: Free to ISPD members, non-members pay approx. €50. (workshop usually costs over €100 per participant)Key OutcomesIdentify suitable designs, materials, and limitations for laser cutting scale figures and model furniture.Prepare and customise 2D artwork using simple templates.Successfully produce and assemble at least one figure and/or model furniture piece during the session.Develop confidence to use laser cutting or engraving for future performance design projects.What do you need:Attendees can bring their laptop with their preferred vectorise software like Illustrator or Inkscape. Laptops can also be provided at the venue with the required software.Ideally, participants will bring 2-3 prepared vector files that they would like to test in the laser cutter/engraver (e.g., files made in CAD, Rhino, Fusion 360, etc.), but this is not a prerequisite.Wood and cardboard will be provided for the workshop, but participants may bring additional test materials (e.g., perspex)This event is funded by the Arts Council. This event is free for members or €50 for non-members. You can join online or check your status by emailing info@ispd.ie.
