DPL Fall Book Club: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

The Duncan Public Library in partnership with the Friends of the Library will host IT WAS THE 90s: a series of book events centered around four amazing books presented by four local scholars as they take you through the 90s at your favorite local library! These four novels are award winning, and we feel like they are representative of important literary events and trends in the 1990s. November's book is The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it--from garden seeds to Scripture--is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family's tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.
