Shadow Box Pendants
Level: Intermediate – This course is ideal for students with prior jewellery-making experience who want to expand both their technical skills and creative design approach. To get the most from the workshop, you should already be confident with saw piercing and soldering.
Join us for a weekend-long shadow box pendant workshop and explore the possibilities of layered, dimensional jewellery design in a relaxed and supportive studio environment. Shadow box pendants are miniature wearable worlds, built from layered frames and forms to create depth, detail and visual intrigue. Over the course of the weekend, you’ll design and construct your own pendant using silver, copper and brass, learning how to build a frame and background before layering elements together using sweat soldering techniques.
Your pendant’s theme is entirely up to you. You might choose to create a landscape, an illustrated scene, something symbolic or purely abstract. To help you get started, we’ll provide template elements and design guidance, and tutors Jo and Trisha will be on hand throughout to help you develop your ideas, select appropriate materials and solve any construction challenges.
For those keen to push things further, there will be the opportunity to incorporate mixed media such as wood, aluminium or paper, using cold connections to integrate non-metal elements into your design.
By the end of the weekend, you’ll leave with a finished shadow box pendant and a solid understanding of how to design and construct jewellery with depth, structure and personal expression.
