About the event

Fundraising concert
The first fundraising concert Plean House and Stables is to be held.

And four professional musicians have given up their time to make sure the event hits all the right notes.

The Doune Bassoon Quartet, consisting of Peter Wesley, Heather Brown, Kath Nagl, and Graeme Brown) will be performing at the Doune Rural Hall on 19 April to help raise funds for the new charity formed to rebuild and restore the derelict house and stables within Plean Country Park, Stirling.

Quartet founder, Peter Wesley, said: “We are keen to support this new charity with their ambitious plans as I regularly take part in Plean parkrun which is held in the park. It is a beautiful setting and it would be lovely to see the buildings restored.

“The Doune Bassoon Quartet was formed in 2012 to help raise funds to restore the Rural Hall in Doune which had been gifted to the village in a very dilapidated state. We were active in holding fundraising concerts for the hall as we lived in the area. Restoring and using these old buildings are vital for small communities as it gives them a place to meet and socialise. When I heard of the plans to restore these two grand buildings, I felt it was fitting to perform to help raise funds for another restoration project.”

Peter added: “Since the professional group were formed, we have given many concerts in Doune and further afield, with entertaining and informative performances showing off what a brilliant, if less well-known, instrument the bassoon is.

“There will be music for everyone, entertaining introductions and a brilliant raffle so do come along on April 19 - but reserve your ticket as numbers are limited!"

Peter and Graeme are members of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra based in Glasgow while Kath and Heather are freelancers on the Scottish orchestral scene.

Chair of Plean House and Stables, Jackie Stewart, said: “We are deeply appreciative of the Doune Bassoon Quartet to give up their time and put on this performance for us, their generosity is not lost on us and we are really looking forward to our inaugural concert. They will be performing popular music which will be instantly recognisable so please do come along and support us. All the money we raise will go back into the project.”

The Quartet’s repertoire is wide-ranging from Bach to the Beatles, with many tunes arranged by the players themselves, and includes film music such as the Dambusters and Star Wars, popular Classics and even numbers involving singing and clog-dancing!

Tickets priced £15 for adults, £5 for those under 26 can be obtained from the information centre, Doune, 01786 841250
