The 2026 William A. Irvin 5K will again be the kickoff event to a weekend full of running and excitement along the scenic north shore of Lake Superior.
This 3.1-mile race will again have an earlier start time of 1:00 p.m. AND use the racecourse debuted last year that takes participants down the iconic finish stretch of Grandma's Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.
The race will still start near the historic William A. Irvin ore boat slip, taking runners on a beautiful tour of Duluth before finishing in the city's premier outdoor entertainment venue, Bayfront Festival Park.
All participants in the William A. Irvin 5K will receive a commemorative shirt (at packet pickup) and finisher medal.
There are only 1,500 entries available in the general 5K field, with another 1,000 available through the Great Grandma's Challenge - which offers a chance to run the 5K on Friday followed by either the marathon or half marathon on Saturday.
NOTE: The 1,500 entries in the general field are fewer than past years, and we expect those entries to be sold out shortly after registration opens on October 1.
