The Cobh Rambler - Diesel Railtour

The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland (RPSI) is delighted to announce our next diesel hauled railtour - "The Cobh Rambler" on Saturday 5th October 2019:

DUBLIN HEUSTON  - PORTARLINGTON (Pick Up) - MALLOW - CORK = 071+201 Class in Multiple

CORK - COBH = 201 Class Solo

COBH - CORK (AVOIDING LINE NON-STOP) - MALLOW (REVERSE) - KILLARNEY (REVERSE) - MALLOW = 071 Class Solo

MALLOW - PORTARLINGTON - DUBLIN HEUSTON 201+071 Class in Multiple

We are delighted to announce our next diesel day tour, organised to raise funds for restoring our vintage fleet of diesel locomotives.

Starting from Dublin Heuston station the train will first make its way down the mainline to Cork hauled by a mixed pair made up of an 071 and 201 locomotive operating in multiple. In Cork, the 071 will go light engine to Cobh with the train following on behind hauled by the 201. In Cobh the 071 will join the rear of the train for the run first of all back to Mallow (via the station avoiding line in Cork) and then down the Kerry road to Killarney. The loco will then run around for the return to Mallow. While all this is going on, the 201 will return light engine from Cobh to Cork and will exchange with another member of the class. This locomotive will then go forward to Mallow and wait for the train to return from Killarney. The 201 will then join the head of the train with the 071 for the return to Dublin Heuston once again operating in multiple.

The outline departure time is approximately 08:00 with a return to Dublin at 20:30. This will be a FULL day out (timings to be confirmed). We are not guaranteeing any connections on the same day into or out of the tour for ferries, flights or bus services out of Dublin.

As with previous diesel railtours this one is sure to very popular and will sell out quickly so don't delay and get your booking in as soon as possible.

All funds raised by this trip will be going directly to the restoration of GM 121 class 134, currently under overhaul in Inchicore Works. We are hoping to see her and the 141 class hauling our future RPSI diesel tours. As with all our tours, we will have a full bar available throughout the day serving draught Guinness, O'Hara's as well as a wide range of spirits, wines and bottled beers. We will also have our snack car serving breakfast baps, sandwiches and burgers along with tea and filter coffee.

Please note that the outline times shown are subject to change until paths are finalised with Irish Rail.
