Lunchtime Recital: The Phoenix Girls' Chorus
The Phoenix Girls Chorus, founded in 1981, is an established choral organization for girls and young women from every community in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area. The Chorus is a private, not for-profit organization that offers an exemplary choral music education to girls between the ages of seven and eighteen in program of five choir levels. The focus of the Chorus is to provide a nurturing environment where singers develop their music skills to the best of their ability, form lasting friendships, develop strength and independence, and create lifetime memories. This program transforms girls into outstanding young women who are skilled musicians as well as leaders who serve their community joyfully.
In Arizona, the Chorus has performed for the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Arizona House of Representatives, City of Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, former Governor Janet Napolitano,
Academy Award winner Goldie Hawn and has made numerous radio and television appearances.
International highlights include performances at the Vatican in Rome, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and in competition at the Schubert Hall in Vienna. This year we presented our sixth annual women’s chorus festival, Songfest, which brings together intergenerational female singers from all over the state to unite and celebrate their voices in song.
In 2016 the Phoenix Girls Chorus and 150 other women of all ages from around the country premiered a performance of the newest treble edition of Antonio Vivaldi’s well-loved Gloria RV 589 in New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall, under the direction of our Artistic Director, Danya Tiller.
