We are holding our special Christmas event for 2025 in Dunsink Observatory
Hosted by our society, it will be great fun and an opportunity to meet friends and fellow amateur astronomers, including members from other IFAS clubs in this very important historical setting.
Dunsink requires anyone attending to pre-book so we are all required to book through Eventbright (link sent by email to IAS members). Please notice: this event is for IAS/IFAS members only (

The night will be organised as follows:
- Dr. Antonio Martin Corrillo (UCD School of Physics) entitled ‘ Live, die, repeat: the story of a gamma-ray explosion that seems to keep going forever‘.
- This will be followed by a brief update from the IAS president, Dr. Donnacha O’Driscoll on next year’s Solar Eclipse in August.
- Attendees will then have a chance to display their astronomy general knowledge by competing in our annual quiz, hosted by IAS vice-President Michael McCreary.
- There will be a raffel for a telescope which was kindly donated to the society. This free raffel is for Members of the IAS who attend.
We will then finish off the evening with mince-pies and drinks in the Hamilton room. And if the weather allows we may even get to do some observations on the lawn and maybe even visit the Grubb telescope in the South dome – Now who would want to miss all that!
Also check out other Contests in Dublin.
