Hidden In Plain Sight - Opening Night
The Icon Factory is delighted to present its first exhibition of 2018: "Hidden In Plain Sight"- sketches of Dublin City by Emma Doyle, great artist, longtime friend and a big supporter of The Icon Project.
Emma has been painting, drawing and sketching since early
childhood. She is a self-taught artist who has developed her own individual style of work. She paints using acrylic paint and mixed media of watercolor and pen. She has previously exhibited her work in Bray, Galway and Dublin. She also exhibits on Sundays at Merrion Square Open-Air Art Gallery.
Her latest works for her solo show, “Hidden in Plain Sight”, are meticulously planned out pencil sketches, to which she then adds fine detail using Sakura pigma micron pens or a vibrant wash of watercolour, followed by detailed pen work.
The idea for this exhibition began when she was travelling upstairs on a double-decker bus through Dublin City, when she noticed The Lafayette Building on the corner of D’Olier Street and Westmorland Street. It’s beautiful architecture of Portland stonework with Gothic leanings stands out among the surrounding buildings. In the hustle and bustle of modern day life, we rarely stop to look at our surroundings and the amazing buildings, some of which have stood here for centuries. So she set about sketching some of these buildings which we take for granted, from churches to banks to pubs; they all have their unique beauty.
“Hidden In Plain Sight” will run from 16th March to 6th April 2018. The opening reception will be on Friday 16th March from 6pm - 9pm.
All are welcome!
