Grá & Eagla: The love and fear of speaking a new language
FREE EVENT - BOOKING REQUIRED
This event is part of the Mother Tongues Festival. www.mothertonguesfestival.com
This event will include the screening of the award-winning documentary 'Grá & Eagla', a story about Irish people's love and fear of our native language. The story follows comedian Áine Gallagher as she prepares material for her bi-lingual stand-up comedy show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This story documents Áine's journey to speak Irish confidently and face her own insecurities head on. The film offers fresh insight into what it means to be an Irish-speaker in modern Ireland. A panel discussion with the filmmakers and other guests will follow this screening. Speakers will share their personal experiences of speaking Irish and English as a second language. This discussion will aim to encourage future Irish speakers and develop a shared understanding of the experiences that non-native English speakers have when living in Ireland.
'Grá & Eagla' was directed by Caitríona Ní Chadhain and funded through the Galway Film Centre's 'Dig Where You Stand' scheme.
