Sandra Oman, soprano
Simon Morgan, baritone
Ruth McGill, actress
Niall Kinsella, piano
Join soprano Sandra Oman and baritone Simon Morgan and actress Ruth McGill in this beautiful concert celebration of four unforgettable performers of the 20th century – Gordon MacRae, Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and Shirley Jones. Accompanied on piano by Niall Kinsella, Sandra and Simon will perform all of the great songs, arias and duets associated with these legendary performers – from The Desert Song, Showboat, Oklahoma!, Carousel, Kiss Me Kate, The Toast of New Orleans, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers – while actress Ruth McGill will be the host for the concert in the role of Hollywood columnist and NBC broadcaster Hedda Hopper. She will recount their life stories – how Gordon MacRae came to star in two of the greatest musicals ever committed to celluloid, Oklahoma! and Carousel, and how in later life he worked with addicts in treatment centres following his own recovery from alcoholism; how Howard Keel was born into abject poverty and rose to conquer Broadway, the West End AND Hollywood; Kathryn Grayson’s studies to be an opera singer and how she returned to opera after her movie contract expired; and the volte face made by Shirley Jones, who intended to study Veterinary Medicine and ended up signed personally to Rogers and Hammerstein! From the team that starred in “Will You Remember? – A Celebration of MGM Legends Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy” also at the NCH.
