EAP Curriculum and Assessment Development Workshop

EAP Curriculum and Assessment Development Workshop

3rd March 2018

The Centre for English Language Learning and Teaching (CELLT)

Trinity College Dublin, Long Room Hub

The Centre for English Language Learning and Teaching (CELLT) at Trinity College Dublin, with support from EAP in Ireland, will host a workshop on EAP curriculum and assessment development on Saturday 3rd March 2018. The workshop aims to offer research-based professional development to English language educators in Irish public and private sectors, specifically to those involved in the growing area of EAP. Through the workshop, facilitators will illustrate best practice in the EAP classroom and support EAP practitioners in designing EAP curricula and assessment in their respective institutions.

Speakers at this event:

Maxine Gillway (Director of the Centre for English Language and Foundation Studies, the University of Bristol; Chair of BALEAP)

The Coherent Curriculum: Putting Principles into Practice for a Sustainable Learning Experience

These two presentations and two workshops will take a wide-angled approach to curriculum development, looking at how curriculum, assessment and teaching can work together to aspire to the transformation of learners rather than simply their orientation to one specific academic purpose. Reference will be made to both EAP and wider educational literature. Case studies of different EAP curricula will be used to evaluate the practical application of the principles discussed. Participants will then be invited to critique these and their own cases in the light of these and their own principles. It is hoped that all participants will leave the day with greater clarity on their own research-informed guiding principles and some concrete plans for putting these into practice.

(1) interactive talk on curriculum design principles and planning
(2) hands on curriculum development island hopping - my scenarios
(3) interactive talk on integrating assessment and evaluation into a curriculum
(4) structured peer feedback on your own puzzles and proposed solutions (Please bring your own syllabus, schemes of work, assessments)

To register for this workshop (25€), please complete the following google form from which a participant list will be generated and subsequently sent the relevant Eventbrite registration link. The deadline for registration is the 24th of February 2018.
