Dalkey Book Festival presents Jared Diamond
Dalkey Book Festival proudly
Jared Diamond converses on crisis & resilience in an age of change, Brexit and Trump with David McWilliams.
Monday 27th of May, 2019 at The Mansion House, Dawson Street at 7.30pm.
As part of our celebrations to mark our tenth anniversary, we are delighted to announce a special one-off Dalkey-X event with Jared Diamond in the fabulous Round Room of The Mansion House at 7.30pm on Monday 27th May. This is his first public event in Ireland and promises to be a memorable evening.
Jared Diamond has been called ‘the master storyteller of the human race’ who has transformed our understanding of human history using an extraordinary combination of anthropology, economics, biology, linguistics, ornithology, ecology and geography.
He is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the seminal million-copy-bestseller Guns, Germs, and Steel, - one of TIME's best non-fiction books of all time - and Collapse, a #1 international bestseller. Now, in the third book in this monumental trilogy, Upheaval – how nations cope with crisis and change he reveals how successful nations recover from crisis. This could hardly be more timely, in our crisis-hit era of Brexit and Trump, where many of our certainties now look not just temporary but dangerously fragile.
Exhibiting the trademark erudition and depth that marks all Diamond's work, Upheaval reveals how both nations and individuals can become more resilient. Looking ahead, he will voice his concerns about the potential shift of the United States away from democracy.
Join one of the world’s greatest living intellectuals as we trace the arc of human history from the earliest hunter gatherers to Donald Trump and beyond!
