Are #Maths rigorous or creative? Abstract or universal? Inegalitarian or democratic? Ancient or always evolving? Solitary or collective? Difficult or super easy?
Can they be all of that? How important are they in our world?
Maths classes can be a major source of fear and stress for many students while mathematicians can talk for hours about the beauty of mathematics. Why is our perception of the subject so uneven?
Join us for a journey throughout the world in the company of some of the greatest mathematicians, including Cédric Villani (2010 Fields Medal) with the screening of "Comment j’ai détesté les Maths (How I came to hate Maths)" by Olivier Peyon. Screening followed by a Q&A in English with mathematicians from France and Ireland.
The evening organised with the support of the French Embassy as part of Science Week Ireland by Dr. Victoria Lebed (Hamilton Mathematics Institute, Trinity College Dublin) will be introduced by Marc Daumas, Scientific & Academic Attaché (Ambassade de France en Irlande) and followed by a reception at La Cocotte.
