An Ghaeilge Mor Thimpeall Orainn Seeing the language

An exhibition at the Five Lamps Arts Festival

‘An Ghaeilge mór-thimpeall orainn /Seeing the Language’ is a photographic project which illustrates the visible presence of the Irish language in everyday discourse in Ireland. The underlying objective of the project is to raise public awareness of how the language is in many ways subtly and visually embedded in our lives. It is hoped that this work would encourage more diverse use of visual signifiers of a “Gaeilge agus Fáilte” atmosphere. The project is a collaboration between photographers Fionán O’Connell and John Carroll and was constructed as part of Conradh na Gaeilge’s recent Bliain na Gaeilge initiative. Is tionscadal griangrafadóireachta é ‘An Ghaeilge mór thimpeall orainn/Seeing the Language’ a léiríonn láithreacht na Gaeilge in Éirinn. Taispeánfar an tionscadal in ionaid neamhghnáth, áiteanna nach mbeifeá ag súil leis an nGaeilge a fheiceáil.Bun-cuspóir an tionscadal seo ná aird an phobal a tharraingt ar an tslí ina bhfuil an teanga neadaithe go caolchúiseach inár saoil. Tá súil againn go mbeidh an obair seo mar spreagadh do úsáid níos éagsúla de comharthaíocht shúile in atmaisféar ‘Gaeilge agus Fáilte’.
