“Now playing gigs with a dynamic and sinuous band that instinctively fuse jazz with hip-hop, Gough delivers on every front. New music will be cleared for take-off in 2020 – as will, all too inevitably, Gough himself.” - The Irish Times
“Gough’s success lies in his live, organic approach to hip-hop combined with a perpetual underdog delivery – a product of years of experience as a drummer. 2020 is set to be a huge one for this rising star.” - Nialler9
“...he was met by raucous requests for an encore, a rarity at an event such as this. Another twelve minutes, jazz and Eminem-infused improvisation later, the cheers only grew, as did the smile across Gough and co.’s faces. If anyone needed reminding, Gough once again proved why 2020 is going to be his year.” - Golden Plec
2019 saw the rapid rise of Alex Gough as one of the country’s front runners for the 2020 breakthrough title. Forming his brilliant, highly acclaimed 4-piece band just 12 months ago, he has since been winning over crowds one show at a time across the UK and Ireland, alongside releasing some of his most mature work to date in the debut EP ‘80%’ to rave reviews.
Coming straight out at the top of the year with ‘FOOL’, there’s a new confidence brimming from the 21-year-old. The track is once again written and performed solely by Gough, this time with some help from Matt Corrigan on production and mixed in London by Producer/Composer Nicholas De Carlo. Artwork comes from up and coming Irish graffiti artist ‘Kone’, a fan of Gough’s, based out of the Netherlands and who’s most recent projects include works for the likes of Puma and Lucozade.
Of ‘FOOL’ Alex says –
“‘FOOL’ was definitely a spontaneous creation. Sparked while scrolling through different plug ins and sample packs, and coming across one that caught my attention straight away. While waiting for food, we started messing around with it and had the basis of ‘FOOL’ in about half an hour max.
I kept delaying my drive home because of the amount of fun I was having with it, and there is no doubt that this comes across in the final track. Sometimes the best moments are the ones you don’t expect.”
In such a short space of time, Alex has attracted attention globally from the likes of Spotify and YouTube with his genre defying sound, while also garnering plays in his native Ireland across 2FM, Today FM, Beat 102103 and WLR, alongside support from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio in the UK.
2019 saw him take the project to the live circuit with his band, Gough front and centre on drumming and vocal duties. The 4-piece Hip Hop/Jazz experience has been the subject of phenomenal praise and standing ovations, taking each venue by storm with the unique live sounds of Alex Gough's production. 2020 is set to see him taking these levels of success to even greater heights.
