The exquisite ‘Rose Window’ dominating the organ gallery over the entrance to the Chapel was designed by the artist, Evie HoneFree Event with retiring collection in favour of DCU Educational Trust. Choral singing, in addition to improving human wellness, is a tradition that fosters community-building, cooperation, harmony and personal satisfaction among participants of diverse backgrounds and skills, with the human voice as the common ingredient. Under the leadership of Dr. Cara Tasher since 2006, together, students of all majors at the University of North Florida offer inspiring and transformational performances, striving to deeply understand the music they sing and become messengers of the text in all languages, with cultural competency as a focal point. The international profile of the UNF Singers has included performance opportunities in Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, and South Africa, and conferences in Argentina, Denmark, and Korea. Singers are thrilled to frequently collaborate with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in masterworks including La Bohème, Daphnis et Chloe, Verdi Requiem, Belshazzar’s Feast, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Dream of Gerontius, Messiah, and Missa Solemnis. On their own in collaboration with The Lawson Ensemble, the UNF Singers have performed Bach St. John’s Passion, Brahms, Fauré, Howells and Mozart Requiems, and staged Handel’s Messiah and Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610. UNF choral alumni are leaders in esteemed organizations like Chanticleer, the Singing Girls Choir of Texas, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, San Francisco Opera Chorus and more. One graduate student in conducting is accepted into the program every two years.Dr. Cara Tasher has served as the Director of Choral Studies at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville since 2006. In this role, she leads the university’s choral program, conducts the Chamber Singers and Osprey Treble Chorus, and teaches courses in choral conducting and literature. She also directs major initiatives such as the Jacksonville SINGS! September Choral Invitational and Summer Choral Arts Week, fosters partnerships with community organizations, and mentors aspiring professional musicians at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.In collaboration with the UNF Lawson Ensemble and other valued partners, members of the UNF Choral Program have had the opportunity to perform major choral-orchestral works such as Bach’s St. John Passion, the Requiems of Brahms, Fauré, Howells, and Mozart, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 (twice), and Handel’s Messiah. Alumni of the program have gone on to serve in leadership roles with organizations including the Singing Girls of Texas, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Daytona State College, Flagler College, Naples AMU, and Oxford College of Emory University. Others are actively engaged as freelance artists or performing with respected ensembles and companies such as Chanticleer, San Francisco Opera Chorus, Bronx Opera, New York Opera Conservatory, Opera Theatre of Montclair, and Light Opera of New Jersey. Dr. Tasher is proud to support the continued growth and success of her students and alumni, both in Jacksonville and beyond.The DCU Chamber Choir is a mixed-voice choir made up of singers from all campuses and faculties of Dublin City University, founded in 2022 by Kevin Boushel. The choir have performed in Dublin and Cork, as well as appearing on the Christmas Eve broadcast on RTÉ One in 2022 and 2023 performing alongside Nathan Carter, Jack L and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and has been broadcast on RTÉ Lyric FM. In 2023, the choir won the Lombard Murphy Cup for Sacred Music at the Feis Ceoil and competed in the grand final of the adult choir competitions. This year they made their debuts at the City of Derry International Choral Festival and the All-Ireland Choral Intervarsity.
