- **Event Description**: This lecture introduces the fascinating figure of Casimir Markievicz, Polish artist and husband of Constance Markievicz.About this EventDelivered by art historian Prof. Emily Mark-FitzGerald (UCD), the lecture also explores Casimir's central place in Dublin’s bohemian circles in pre-revolutionary Dublin.A painter, playwright, and larger-than-life personality, Casimir was a close associate of many luminaries of the Irish Revival, and the subject of a major art exhibition in Dublin Castle in 2025. This presentation will discuss Casimir’s relationship to Constance, his artistic ambitions, and the links between Ireland, Poland, and Ukraine that his life represents.Professor Emily Mark-FitzGerald from the School of Art History & Cultural Policy, University College Dublin, specialises in Irish visual culture from the 19th c.- present. In 2025 she co-curated (with Dr Katy Milligan, NCAD) the Casimir Markievicz exhibition in Dublin Castle, in collaboration with Embassy of the Republic of Poland. Her many publications span Irish art history, public commemoration, photography, and Irish cultural politics. She has formerly represented Art History on the Historical Studies Committee of the Royal Irish Academy; is currently Chair of UCD Press; and a former Director of the Irish Museums Association.
