Our Manual Handling Instructor QQI Level 6 course gives participants the know-how, skilfulness and self-reliance to manage and deliver Manual Handling training. This Manual Handling Instructor course is designed to give you the skills for you to complete Manual Handling Risk Assessments and provide training as required by “Part 4, Chapter 2, of the General Application Regulations 2007, Manual Handling of Loads”, which states that staff engaging in manual handling actions must have training in the safe manual handling of loads.
Day 1 - Covers Legislation for health and safety, particularly manual handling. The learner will gain a detailed knowledge of Acts, Regulations, insurance, courts, employers and employees legal responsibilities.
Day 2 - Covers the risk assessment process, injuries and anatomy. Learners will be able to conduct detailed manual handling risk assessments and will be able to recommend control measures that will cut the risk of manual handling injuries. They will also gain a good knowledge of anatomy and how injuries occur.
Day 3 - Covers training skills. Learners will gain practical knowledge in the skills required to successfully deliver a manual handling training course. Learners will also cover the basics in safe lifting techniques.
Day 4 - Full practical day on lifting techniques. Learners will be able to lift a range of different loads including awkward loads, fluid loads, lifting up and down stairs, team lifts, pushing and pulling.
Day 5 - All Participants will partake in a full manual handling course which is delivered by a qualified instructor, this way you will know what is required of you when you deliver in the real world. You will then deliver a presentation and sit a 20 question exam
Tests and Exams
Each learner will deliver a 10 - minute presentation on 1 topic from the manual handling course.
In addition to this, you will complete a one hour, 20 question exam.
Additional Learning: All participant need to complete a detailed manual handling risk assessment which is conducted as self-directed learning, this has to be returned within 2 weeks of the course.
All learners will receive 2 manual handling books which can be used for quick reference and as a way of keeping their skills up to date. Learners will also have access to our state of the art online private web portal where they will be able to access all the resources necessary for an instructor to deliver their own training course. To access our private online web portal leaners will need to have access to the internet and a computer or laptop.

- Written test, with answers for your own course
- Relevant legislation and guidance documents
- Health & Safety publications
- Codes fo Practice
- Relevant court cases

And so much more… Once training is completed new instructors are ready to go, no need for you to spend time developing new course material.
Lunch is provided on all days of training. This includes a hot meal and drinks in our local cafe as well as tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day.
