Cybersecurity Awareness Day
Although the unprecedented advancements in digital technology have offered massive opportunities for business optimisation and growth, the associated vulnerabilities of digitisation have maximised the need for cyber security as a serious concern for all businesses. Recent statistics show that cybercrimes continue to be among the top five biggest business risks in 2019. Internet of things (IOT) is a key driver for cybercrimes. An individual might also be a target for a cyber attack or even might become a part of a cyber attack unknowingly.
According to Gartner, the global market for security will grow to an impressive $124 billion in 2019, an increase of 8.7 % from last year. At least 30 % of organisations will spend on GDPR-related consulting and implementation services through 2019. Risk management and privacy concerns within digital transformation initiatives will drive additional security service spending through 2020 for more than 40% of organisations. Services (subscription and managed) will represent at least 50 percent of security software delivery by 2020.
“This evolving cybersecurity service market is in desperate need for young fresh talents.” Universities and other educational institutions have an important role in providing a continuous stream of skilled individuals who can tackle the different challenges in security.
