Shannon Delany's 13 TO LIFE series (13 to Life, Secrets and Shadows, Bargains and Betrayals, Destiny and Deception, and Rivals and Retribution) began after she won the first-ever cellphone novel contest in the western world in December of 2008. Picked up by St. Martin's Press (an imprint of Macmillan) in early 2009, her books were so well received by readers (and nominated for a YALSA Teen Top Ten) that her trilogy was expanded to five books and quickly led to a second series (the WEATHER WITCH series), film interest, and translations of the 13 to Life series into a half-dozen languages. Writing under several names, Shannon's fairytale and folktale retellings and nonfiction articles have been published in national magazines, and her short stories (in fantasy and science fiction) have been published in well-regarded anthologies. She's been interviewed by CNN.com, the LA Times, and national writing magazines. Shannon's WEATHER WITCH series (a steampunk-influenced series through St. Martin's Press) released beginning in 2013 and included Weather Witch, Stormbringer, and Thunderstruck.
Shannon earned her MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies in 2020, her thesis being Making Them Pay: The Role of Stereotype Tax and Confirmation Bias in the Holocaust-Era Resistance Efforts of Women. Her newest fiction works often incorporate resistance-related themes. In 2020 Shannon began ghostwriting and book coaching for a highly respected international agency, specializing in writing memoirs for trauma survivors, and resulting in her writing and coaching a dozen other books into being to date (none of which she's allowed to talk directly about due to NDAs...). Shortly before her agent’s retirement, he won back Shannon's rights to her traditionally published books, allowing her to make additions and changes and republish things as she sees fit. Shannon continues writing, ghostwriting, coaching writers, and she also occasionally edits for a popular online publisher when time allows. She can be found at ShannonDelany.com, on Substack with her Frequently Infrequent newsletter, and on most social media platforms.
