On Friday June 19th queer cult classic But I'm a Cheerleader (1999) will be presented by Venus Patel. The screening will begin at 7pm, and will be followed by a discussion with the artist. Not Another Queer Cinema Club is a queer collective with a goal of fostering community through art and film. Founded through Highlanes AMPLIFY Young Creatives Group, our mission is to facilitate social screenings to connect the queer community with contemporary artists.AMPLIFY is excited to collaborate with artist Venus Patel on this special evening event.Venus Patel is a monster - part woman, part cardboard, part Indian, part Salvadorian, part cat, and part trash. Across performance, film, and sculpture, she proposes the deconstruction of boundaries and the unleashing of hidden and erased histories. She embraces failure, DIY aesthetics, and hybridity to puncture the structures that uphold society. Her work relies on the absurd, the fantastical, and the abject to create speculative realities for Queer/POC liberation.She has exhibited and performed across Ireland and N.Ireland with Catalyst Arts, IMMA, Rua Red, Pallas Projects, Sirius Arts Centre, and Live Art Ireland, and has screened film work across Europe and the US.
