Some will seek particular species—like bats, insects, or birds—while others explore specific habitats like wetlands and forests. Observations will be entered into iNaturalist. Whether you’re a seasoned scientist, a curious neighbor, or a student explorer, this is for you! No credentials are required—just an interest in the nature of Teton Valley! To ensure safe access to the sites and high-quality data, field sessions are designed for participants ages 13 and up.The Conservation Fair (All Ages): Once the morning field sessions wrap up, the excitement moves to our Saturday 1:00pm - 4:00pm Conservation Fair at Basecamp**! Open to the public and nature lovers of every age, the Fair is the heart of our celebration. Join us for presentations from area conservation groups, fascinating displays, hands-on activities, discussions with experts, and more!Field Explorations: Site, Habitat & TerrainWillow Riparian:The Six Springs Ranch, 1.5 miles south of Driggs, hosts large springs that feed spring creeks vital to native trout spawning. Willows and wetlands on the ranch host an abundance of birds and other wildlife.?? Level 1: Gentle & Accessible HabitatWhat to expect: Flat land located directly on the Basecamp property. This is our easiest, most accommodating exploration and is suitable for participants with limited mobility.___________________________Sagebrush HabitatThe Three Forks Ranch on Teton River south of the Rainey Access hosts a broad sagebrush habitat that is home to a unique array of animals and plants. This property is important for wintering deer, elk, and moose.?? Level 2: Easy WalkingWhat to expect: Very manageable, flat terrain. Perfect for those looking for a relaxed, easy-going pace with solid footing.___________________________Forest RiparianTeton Creek. This landscape is accessed via South Bates Road approximately 2.6 miles west of Highway 33. Teton Creek flows through the north side of the property with abundant meadows, spring creeks, aspen stands, and wetlands.?? Level 3: Moderate & ExtendedWhat to expect: The terrain itself is generally easy, but this is a large property that requires covering more distance. Participants should be comfortable walking longer stretches and navigating occasional wet or muddy ground.___________________________Canyon CorridorThe Bitch Creek Canyon site immediately west of the Bitch Creek bridge on Highway 32 is a vital migration corridor for mule deer and elk. Bitch Creek is the largest Teton River tributary, and the canyon sides provide diverse habitats.?⛰️ Level 4: Strenuous & HillyWhat to expect: A hike into more adventurous, rugged terrain. Participants should be comfortable with moderate physical exertion, uneven footing, and hilly environments.____________________________Forest EdgeThe Darby Canyon site on State Line Road at the canyon mouth is remarkably diverse with aspen/mountain brush stands, conifers, and hillside winter range.?⛰️ Level 4: Strenuous & HillyWhat to expect: While there are established trails to follow, the route is hilly and strenuous.
