Als Ende der 80er die zwei New Wave Musiker Bruno Kramm und Stefan Ackermann ihre ersten religionskritischen Demotapes verschickten, konnten sie nicht ahnen, dass die darauf überspielten Songs wie „Gott ist tot“ und „Satans neue Kleider“ die Geburtsstunde eines neuen Genres, der neuen deutschen Todeskunst einläuteten und nur ein paar Monate später als Hymne einer schwarzen Szene im wiedervereinigten Deutschland dienen durfte, deren Magie auch heute im im neuen Jahrtausend noch immer zu spüren ist.
Mit den frühen Werken „Satanische Verse“ und dem Album „Die Propheten“ verbanden Das Ich Schauspiel mit Musik, Expressionismus mit Klassik und Elektronik mit Gothic zu einer bisher unbekannten Intensität und inspirierten unzählige Bands und Kunstformen aller Sparten. Auf ausgedehnten, weltweiten Tourneen im Europa, USA, Südamerika, Asien, Israel und Russland vertraten sie nicht nur die Kultur eines neuen, expressiven Deutschlands, sondern halfen bei der Emanzipation ihrer Muttersprache von Schlager, Volksmusik und Krautrock.
Aktuell arbeiten DAS ICH an Ihrem langerwarteten neuen Album und gehen ab Herbst 2025 auf eine umfangreiche Tour.
