- **Event Description**: The Sound ontstond in de roerige (post)punktijd van begin jaren tachtig. Aanvankelijk nog beschouwd als de beste Post-Punk band van dat moment (zeker live!) werden ze op commercieel gebied links en rechtsom ingehaald door bands als U2, The Cure en labelgenoot Echo & The Bunnyman. Mede ook vanwege het non-conformisme van zanger Adrian Borland die daarnaast leed aan zware depressies en een schizofrene stoornis. Getuige de documentaire “Walking in the opposite direction” (2016) die over zijn leven gemaakt werd. Tel daarbij het zware tourschema, het uitblijven van commercieel succes en veelvuldig drank & drugs gebruik van de band op en je hebt het hele plaatje. Gelukkig liet de band een enorme legacy achter van 6 albums tussen 1980 en 1987. Denk aan de Post Punk anthems ‘Missiles’ en ‘Winning’, waarbij de eerste het lijflied werd van een hele generatie die zich destijds verzette tegen de opkomst van kernwapens. In Nederland verkocht The Sound destijds grif alle zalen uit, maar hun muziek past ook naadloos in het huidige roerige tijdperk.

In 2023 en 2024 deed The Sound Undercover al een drietal succesvolle tours door Nederland en België. Ontstaan als eenmalige tribute aan het werk van de legendarische Londense Post-Punk formatie “The Sound” bleek de impact van de intense shows op de vele fanatieke Sound fans enorm en bleef de vraag naar meer shows rondwaren. Niet vreemd, mede gezien het feit dat de band voor het grootste gedeelte bestaat uit leden van het nationaal, maar ook over de grens uitermate succesvolle Joy Division Undercover.

The Sound Undercover bracht niet alleen de vele ‘Sound-fans’ bijeen die zich al die jaren over het Europese continent in holen verstopt leken te hebben, maar boorde zelfs een nieuw publiek aan dat The Sound nog niet kende en dat viel voor het tijdloze karakter en de energieke sound van de band. In 2026 zal de band weer een serie shows doen langs de zalen en zal daarbij het belangrijkste -tweede- album “From The Lion’s Mouth” integraal uitvoeren.

Een ware must dus voor liefhebbers van de New Wave uit begin jaren tachtig!
