Pinky/MM Bass is a self-described seeker of life’s mysteries.  At the age of 52, she earned her Master of Fine Arts in Photography at Georgia State University. In 1989, she received a grant for The Itinerant Photographer where she made the first of her giant pinhole cameras from a pop-up camper naming it Pinky’s Portable Pop-up Pinhole Camera and Darkroom, a mobile walk-in camera obscura.  While most widely known for her pinhole and Polaroid photography, Bass works across media. Her large format images are made using alternative cameras and experimental processes and address issues of aging, death and the mythology of that journey. Her work is represented in numerous collections and museums including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Birmingham Museum of Art, and the High Museum in Atlanta. Her photographs have been published in The Polaroid Book, The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes, Aperture, and the Pinhole Journal. Her work has been featured in more than 50 solo exhibitions, and has been shown internationally and throughout the United States. Bass lives in Fairhope, Alabama.
