All are invited to join artist Martien van Zuilen to take part in a weaving workshop and morning tea in Coorow for International Women’s Day.
Coorow Workshop Details:
Sunday 8th March, 10am to 1pm with morning tea
The Co-op Gallery, Main Street, Coorow
There's no cost or booking for the workshop, all are welcome, just come along!
About the Workshop:
Join us to explore the creative art of weaving; combining yarns, colours and patterns to make a unique and personal work of art. Martien will share various easy-to-learn techniques, using simple and innovative weaving looms and frames. A rich abundance of sumpteous yarns, fabrics and natural materials will do the rest, enticing you to craft your ‘story cloth’, using the art of weaving as metaphor; linking the warp and weft of life in a creative and playful process that symbolises an exploration of how we connect; with our stories (aka yarns), with others, our surroundings and community. There is also the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a new, community-designed woven artwork. We look forward to seeing you!
About Martien:
With a creative practice spanning four decades, Martien van Zuilen specialises in various textile-making techniques to create distinctive, narrative works of art. She often incorporates other artmaking elements, such as basketry, mixed media, and a range of everyday and natural materials. Foremost in Martien’s practice is the creation of works that come from a felt connection to, and experience of place and the significance of community. Honouring traditional techniques and using minimal equipment, what matters is an intentional engagement with the process of making and the potential that lies in the unexpected. Based in Boorloo/Perth, Martien combines her arts practice with work in the not-for-profit arts & culture sector. Her work is included in numerous international publications, books, and specialist arts magazines. This is her fourth residency in North Midlands
