About the event

Advanced Life Support (ARC) - Blended Course
Advanced Life Support courses are designed for professional healthcare providers who assess and manage critical patients in any setting.

About this Event

This course is presented in two parts:

  • an online session
  • an instructor-led in-person skills class

The online session of the Advanced Life Support (ALS) course is designed to be adaptive. Depending on the participant’s experience and familiarity with course content, it can be completed in 3.5-6.5 hours. Typical completion time for the online session is approximately 5 hours. Completion of the entire online session, including the evaluation, is required by ARC for admission to the instructor-led class portion of the course.

**If you wish to complete Advanced Life Support with a fully online/independent option using bluetooth-enabled manikins for skill testing, do not register for this course; instead, call 608-930-7150 to inquire with the Staff Development Department.**

The American Red Cross Advanced Life Support (ALS) course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize and care for patients who are experiencing a cardiovascular, cerebrovascular or respiratory emergency. When a patient experiences a life-threatening emergency, healthcare providers need to act swiftly and promptly. The course emphasizes providing high-quality patient care by integrating psychomotor skills, rhythm interpretation, electrical interventions and pharmacologic knowledge with critical thinking and problem solving to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

Participants demonstrate competency in the Advanced Life Support course by actively participating in all skill stations, demonstrating competency in required skills, successfully completing two team response testing scenarios (a BLS team response testing scenario and a final assessment team response testing scenario) and passing a written final exam. Upon meeting the criteria for course completion and demonstration of competency, participants will receive a 2-year American Red Cross Advanced Life Support certification.
