- **Event Description**: The 1850s brought changes that altered our nation, largely because children stepped up during a time of desperate need—especially in the Midwest. Who were these children? Where did they come from? What did they do? 
These children were the children of immigrants who came to this country to escape deplorable conditions in their home countries.and faced daunting situations that created a generation of "lost " children. These children were put on trains and sent to the midwest to fill the need for agricultural and domestic help. Thus, the name "orphan trains". Towards the end of the program 80 years later, they were the sons and daughters of our own communities.
The stories of these children run the gamut from death to high positions in our government. This month, Carol Chandler will tell us more about this important part in our country and in our area.  Please join us to hear the stories of these children who helped build our nation. The program is free to all and will be held on Monday, October 26th at 7 p.m. at the Lee County Historical and Genealogical Center at 113 S. Hennepin Avenue in Dixon.  Plenty of parking available.
