Ventus Machina invites audiences into a night of humour, wit, and high-spirited musical storytelling, joined by special guest Esteban Parra-Campo. At the heart of the program is Vaudeville —a rarely heard gem by celebrated Canadian composer Lothar Klein. Brimming with humour and playful surprises, the work makes full use of its unusual instrumentation: the classic woodwind quintet with a featured soprano saxophone stepping into the spotlight.
Inspired by this distinctive ensemble, the program also features two premieres: a brand-new work by New Brunswick composer Sophie Dupuis, alongside a compelling new piece by Robert Lemay, both written to explore and expand the expressive possibilities of this unique sound world.
Completing the evening are two audience favourites infused with theatrical flair—Mládí by Leoš Janáček, with its youthful energy and rich lyricism, and Scaramouche by Darius Milhaud, a vibrant, character-driven work inspired by the spirit of the theatre.
Playful, expressive, and full of personality, this concert promises an evening where virtuosity meets vaudeville, and chamber music takes centre stage with a wink and a smile.
Tickets: Adult $35, Student $20
