What’s inside a centuries-old jar that’s never been opened? What words hide inside a locked letter that’s lain unread for hundreds of years? In this talk, by our very own Dr Sara Mosca, we’ll explore how scientists are using light instead of scissors or scalpels to solve these mysteries. With laser techniques like Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS), we can peer through glass and paper to uncover hidden stories, without breaking a single seal. It’s heritage science as detective work, revealing the past while protecting it for the future.
This event take place in-person at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and be streamed online via Zoom webinar. We will start promptly at 19:00 and the talk will last for about 1 hour. It is suitable for ages 12 and up, although this is just a guideline.
