Nexgen Presents 1st Preparatorians National Language Festival-2018


Hello Language Enthusiasts!

Parlance is fortitude
-"Language is strength"
-"ভাষা-ই শক্তি"

With this view, We are very glad to inform you that, PREPARATORIANS LANGUAGE SOCIETY(PLS) of MOHAMMADPUR PREPARATORY SCHOOL AND COLLEGE (MPSC) is going to organize the-"Preparatorians Language Society Presents 1st Preparatorians National Language Festival 2018."

The event is scheduled from 4th January, 2018-6th January, 2018.

There are 12 events which are-
1) Debate competition
2) Extempore Speech competition
3) Language based Olympiad
4) Spelling Bee
5) Story writing
6) Photography exhibition (DSLR, DIGITAL CAMERA and MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY)
7) Wall magazine
8) Poem recitation
9) Book based quiz
10) Jumbled words
11) Spinning quiz
12) Linguistic Varieties of Districts in Bangladesh.

The objective of this programme is to widen the domain of language and literary knowledge of the students. So, this programme is designed in such a way that it will surely fulfill the objective.

EVENT RULES:

1) Participants must wear uniform.

2) Visitors can come in civil dress.

3) It is not needed to wear uniform for the participants of photography exhibition. However,bringing ID card is better.

4)There is no registration fee for any event.

5)Spot registration is available only.



The incoming participants are divided into four categories-

1) Junior (6-8)
2) Secondary (9-10)
3) Senior (11-12)
4) University

EVENT DETAILS:


1. SPELLING BEE:

The first round will be listening test i.e.the participants have to write down the words in the answer sheet after hearing from the judge. The final round will be verbal. Maximum 5 participants will be selected from the first round. Participants have to spell the words after hearing from the judge.

2. LANGUAGE BASED OLYMPIAD:

Participants will participate in this event individually. There will be one round only which will be a written test. Participants have to answer 20 questions (10 questions from English literature and grammar & 10 questions from Bengali literature and grammar)

3. BOOK BASED QUIZ:

Participants will participate in this event individually. Participants have to read one book which will be chosen by us. For junior level-টুনটুনি ও ছোটাচ্চু (First version only)For secondary level-Harry Potter (Half blood prince),For senior level-Sherlock Holmes (Volume 2)-The Adventure of Black Peter
The Adventure of the Abbey Grange
The Adventure of the Second Stain
(The Adventure of the Lion's Mane
The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier
The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton
The Adventure of the Six Napoleons
The Adventure of the Three Students
The Adventure of Black Peter
His last bow

Participants have to write the answer of the questions which will be from the given story books.

4. EXTEMPORE SPEECH:

The participants have to speak on a topic which will be given by us on the spot without any prior preparation. Maximum 3 minutes will be given to the participants to prepare their speech and 4 minutes will be given to deliver it.

5. STORY WRITING:

A topic will be given on spot and participants have to write a story according to the given topic. There will be no word limit. The participants have to finish writing their stories within the given time.

6. JUMBLED WORDS:

It is a word puzzle game where the participants will be given a word and they have to make more meaningful words from it.The winners will be chosen on the basis of how many meaningful words a participant can make i.e. The one who will make more meaningful words from the scrambled letters will be the winner.

7. DEBATE COMPETITION (Bangla):

This will be a traditional debate competition. There will be 6 members in one round. 3 members from each team(1st speaker,2nd speaker,team leader) Each member including the team leader will be given 5 minutes to speak. There will be a warning bell on the 4th minute and final bell at the last minute. In the replying round,only one member from each team will come and conclude the topic with logical statement. This round is for two minutes for.There will be a warning bell at 1.5 minutes and the final bell after 30 seconds. Participants have to compete in other rounds with other teams and we will choose two finalist.One will be the winner and the other team is runner up. The competition will be separate for secondary and senior level.

Since debate is a time consuming event,it’s not possible to accomplish the resgistration on spot.The things required to be done for the registration are-
1) Within 18th December the following information of every member of a particular group has to be mailed-
*Institution's name
*Phone number
*Category (secondary or senior)
*Team members' name (3 members in each team)

3)After 18th December we will form a slot consisting of the registered groups.

4)Only two slots are allotted for a particular institution for each category. That is-2 slots for secondary level,2 slots for senior level of a particular institution.

5) Each group should send only one mail which will consist informations' of other two members.

6) After 18th December we will publish the time schedule as well as the teams and their respective opponent teams.

7)The deadline for registering through e-mail is upto 18th december.




8. SPINNING QUIZ:

This is a new event which we hope will create interest. Spinners will get chance to show their skill of spinning as well as general knowledge,language and literature.Participants should bring their own fidget spinner. There will be four booths separately for Junior, Secondary, Senior, University level. In the first round, participants will spin the fidget spinner and we will choose 5 participants from each category on the basis of how long a participant can spin. In the second round, there will be four booths again for junior, secondary, senior, university level. Participants will be given a place where they will start spinning and have to answer the questions related to language,literature and general knowledge while spinning (separate questions for each category i.e. Junior,Secondary,Senior,University). The more questions a participant can answer while spinning will be the winner. We will choose one winner from each category. Participants will be given fidget spinner along with crest.

* If a participant's answer is wrong then he/she will be disqualified.
* If the spinner gets stopped once,there is no second chance.
* If a participant can't answer,then he/she will be disqualified.



9. POEM RECITATION:

Participants will recite a poem of their own choice.

10. WALL MAGAZINE:

This is a team based event.Each team will have maximum 3 members. The basic themes are: Language, Literature, Culture, Historical Figures, Sports, Current affairs, Social issues,Special personalities related to language and literature.

11. LINGUISTIC VARIETIES OF DISTRICTS IN BANGLADESH:

This competition is open for all. There is no separate category. This is a written quiz. Participants will hear an audio clip which includes different accents of different districts in Bangladesh and have to identify the districts of those accents. This event includes the accents of tribal people in Bangladesh as well.

12. PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST:

RULES FOR DSLR and DIGITAL CAMERA's PHOTOGRAPHY:
1) Participants can submit maximum 6 photos
2) Participants should send their photographs through e-mail with the following information-Full Name, Contact Number, Group, Institution Name, Caption for each photograph.
3) For example-Rafia Karim, 018********Junior, MPSC, Submission number-4, Beauty of Sylhet.
4) The participants must be the sole owner of the submitted photo. Photos will not be accepted if it's from any other source.
5) The file should contain minimum 3000 pixels on width.
6) Slight digital manipulation is allowed. Such as: Changing the effect, color enhancement, Cropping etc.
7) Adding or removing photograph's element is strictly prohibited.
8) Photographs with Watermark, logo, stamp will not be accepted.
9) Participants have to pay 300 taka for each photograph through Bkash for framing only when the photo is selected.
10) Once the payment is done for the selected photograph, there is no chance to get the payment back. So, participants must be careful before paying and are requested to check the Bkash number carefully before sending.
11) It is better to send email once. But if there is any problem,participant can send the e-mail again.
12) Participants have to send their photographs within the submission deadline and after selecting photographs,we will publish the names in the event page. Participants are required to pay for their selected photographs within the deadline for payment.
13) Participants should send all the photos of DLSR in one email only. It is convenient for us to check.
14) All the participants will get their photos back with framing on day after the festival ends.
The account number of Bkash will be provided in the event page.
***The submitted photographs will be selected by us for the exhibition. Participants will only pay for the selected photographs***

1) Participants can submit maximum 7 photos
2) Participants should send their photographs through e-mail with the following information-Full Name, Contact Number, Group, Institution Name, Caption for each photograph.
