Heroes of the Neighborhood is Urban Neighborhood Initiatives' (UNI) annual fundraiser and community celebration, taking place on June 18, 2026, from 6:00–9:00 PM at the Springdale Green Playlot in Southwest Detroit.
This year's theme, "A Resilient Springwells," honors the residents, businesses, organizations, and community partners whose dedication and service continue to strengthen our neighborhood. Heroes of the Neighborhood is an opportunity to gather as a community and celebrate those who have made a lasting positive impact while reflecting on UNI's accomplishments over the past 25 years.
Guests will enjoy a chic picnic-style evening featuring food from local restaurants, live performances, interactive youth-led activities, local business vendors, and opportunities to connect with community leaders, residents, and supporters.

Celebrate Neighborhood Heroes:
Each year, community members nominate individuals, groups, and businesses whose efforts have helped make Southwest Detroit a stronger, more vibrant place to live. These honorees represent the spirit of service, leadership, and community care that makes our neighborhood thrive.

Meet the youth, families, and residents who participate in UNI's programs and learn how you can support their goals and aspirations. Connect with participants from programs such as the Southwest Urban Mural Project (SUAMP), where young artists create public art that beautifies and strengthens our community while partnering with local businesses and organizations.

About Urban Neighborhood Initiatives: 
Founded in 1997, Urban Neighborhood Initiatives (UNI) is a nonprofit organization created by Springwells residents to build safe and thriving environments where people want to live, work, and play. Guided by four pillars Education, Land Stewardship, Community Leadership, and a Vibrant Economy UNI works alongside residents and partners to create lasting physical, social, and economic change throughout Southwest Detroit.
The ongoing support of our partners, funders, donors, and residents makes this work possible. Every ticket purchased and donation made helps UNI continue providing vital resources, opportunities, and programs that empower youth, families, and residents across our neighborhoods.
