Detroit Tree Planting in Forest Park
In just a few hours you can make a difference that can last decades! Join us on Saturday, November 3rd at 8:45 a.m. as we plant 60 trees in Detroit's Forest Park, just north of Eastern Market.
ReLeaf Michigan, a non-profit tree planting and education organization, is partnering with Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation, Arbor Day Foundation, ReLeaf MI, and the City of Detroit to increase the tree canopy and provide shade in Forest Park. Our ReLeaf Michigan tree experts will be there to help volunteers learn the proper way to plant and maintain a tree and to oversee the event. Families are welcome!
The tree planting will enhance the overall tree canopy at Forest Park, improving air quality and dampening noise from the nearby freeway. This project will meet the city’s goal of ensuring all residents are within a ten minute walk of a park. Forest Park serves as an important recreational and social outlet to the many senior citizens near the park, and it is also adjacent to the Dequindre Cut, which is a greenway that will eventually connect to the broader city greenway plan.
Please park on Russell St (access off of Mack Ave) and meet at 8:45 a.m. in the park pavilion. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring a shovel if you have one. Event occurs rain or shine (we’re a hearty group!) and light refreshments will be served. No planting experience is necessary. If you have questions, call 800-642-7353. We hope to see you there!
