This is our third year on the national registry in collaboration with the National Council of Teachers of English. This initiative is a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering A-A books and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English and has reached more than 6 million participants around the world. Read your story, poem or song written by a legendary African-American writer from the past that focuses on the Black experience. This is a public reading created to amplify Black literature, culture, experiences, history and comprehension. Tesmer, and we're honorably listed on The OPRAH List ~125 Black-Owned Bookstores in America along with Travel Noire's 50 in 50: Black-owned Bookstores Across America.On June 2, 2023, Detroit Book City was honored in a special ceremony along with a self-portrait on the 'wall of fame' at the Detroit Historical Museum by The Soul Of Philanthropy (TSOP). Over 90 Black leaders in Metro Detroit were highlighted for Black giving in the city.
