Celebrating two decades of art and design education in Detroit communities, the College for Creative Studies exhibition Community Arts Partnerships: 20 in 2020, is on view in CCS's Valade Family in the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education until December 2020.

Launched at CCS in 2000, Community Arts Partnerships (CAP) is the direct result of the College’s commitment to serve Detroit neighborhoods through art and design. CAP works with neighborhood arts education programs and Detroit institutions to develop youth-serving arts education systems. In addition to its after-school and public art programs, CAP leads a training program for students who are interested in careers in the field, preparing them to become teaching artists and lead youth arts education programs across the city.

To date, CAP has partnered with 318 organizations, served 65,000 students and trained nearly 200 teaching artists.

Community Arts Partnerships: 20 in 2020 is both a historical view of the impact of CAP’s programs and a celebration of creative talent and the power of art to uplift communities. Emphasizing organic and cyclical growth, the exhibit includes photographic and written documentation of CAP’s many community arts programs and projects in Detroit neighborhoods, student artwork, infographics (2D and 3D), and interactive displays. Focused on artwork created by Detroit students, 20 in 2020 reveals CAP’s dedication to supporting and preserving the arts in and for Detroit youth, its neighborhoods and the city.

Although the exhibit is not open to the public (due to Covid), members of the CCS community are invited to the gallery to see the exhibit in person. Masks and social distancing are required and all visitors must register. There is a maximum of 20 visitors at a time. Reserve specific time slots above or register at the door with the gallery host.

Lynn is a creative that is heavily invested in the Detroit arts community. She started in 2006 by helping build the education department's art programming at the Arab American National Museum in its early years which included transforming a photography summer camp into a consistent after school program. SURA Arts Academy won the Coming Up Taller Award in 2008. The same year, she was offered a position in the Community Arts Partnerships office at the College for Creative Studies. There, she helps adminster & support programs that serve 3-4,000 area youth a year in after school art & design classes. In 2012, she moved back into the city and dove head first into the arts community - volunteering at Theatre Bizarre, attending gallery openings & performances, building relationships, and working shows. Over the years, her passion has grown to support the community wherever she can. She collects art, attends shows, works shows, purchases merch, etc and is making the jump to start producing. Fueled and energized by collboration, she's constantly looking for new and interesting ways to make/create with other artists. As a commissioned costume designer, this manifests best when she brings her clients' visions to life and they in turn, breathe life into their costumes on stage. Her clients include members of the burlesque community, costumed event patrons and performers, and most recently her work can be seen in the local wrestling community.
