- **Event Description**: A Community Political Education Session with BYP100 DetroitAbout this EventWhat does consent look like when we move beyond "no means no"?Join BYP100 Detroit for a transformative 90-minute political education session on Radical Consent – an anti-carceral framework that redefines how we understand bodily autonomy, power, and community accountability. This is not your typical consent workshop. We'll dig into the historical timeline of consent, from the "Yes Means Yes" campaigns to Lawrence v. Texas to the #MeToo movement. We'll explore how traditional consent ignores power dynamics and intersecting identities, and how radical consent demands an enthusiastic yes at every point of exchange. We'll also grapple with what happens when consent is violated. Using an anti-carceral lens, we'll discuss restorative justice practices, community-led accountability, and how we respond to harm without relying on the state. This session is interactive, grounding, and rooted in Black queer feminist praxis. Come ready to reflect, discuss, and build shared language with your community. What You'll LearnThe difference between traditional consent and radical consent – and why power dynamics matterThe historical timeline of consent – from "No Means No" to "Yes Means Yes" to #MeTooAnti-carceral approaches to harm – transformative justice, restorative justice, community-led accountability, harm reduction, and support podsHow to recognize consent violations in everyday life – not just in sexual situationsBYP100's Healing and Safety Council – resources for moving through harm within our chaptersPractical tools – communication, power, check-ins, affirmation, and keeping an exit route availableWe'll open with a grounding exercise and close with actionable steps for building a culture of radical consent in our communities.About the FacilitatorRaina (she/her) is a Detroit-based organizer, storyteller, and the Communications Chair of the BYP100 Detroit Chapter.
