Assemble your team (or do it yourself)! Using the bases from our past scarecrows, dream up a bright, colorful design, critter, or modern art piece that will add a bit of wonder and delight to Ortenstone Gardens in the winter! 

Here’s The Timeline:

•Thursday, January 15 - Send in your completed application with a simple drawing of your design by midnight. Don't stress about the drawing. We just want to get an idea of what you are proposing. Application can be found in the discussion area of this Facebook event or at this link: https://bit.ly/3MzTdy3

•Monday, January 19 – Our official Winter Color Pop Jury will notify up to seven winners.

•The Week of January 19  - Pick up the frame for your Color Pop (provided frames must be used) between 10am and 3pm at the Project 412 office (third floor of the Historic Holmes Theatre building at 806 Summit Ave. in Detroit Lakes, MN).

•Monday, February 2 - Bring your fully assembled Color Pop to Ortenstone Gardens (28499 Randolph Road in Detroit Lakes, MN) between 10am and 2pm.

•Winter Color Pop pieces will be on display until Sunday, April 12, 2026.

•Winter Color Pop décor must be removed on Monday, April 13. Color Pop frames provided by Project 412 must remain in the garden.  

***The public gets to vote for their favorite art piece. The winner will receive $150 in Detroit Lakes Chamber Bucks + “favorite Color Pop” bragging rights! ***

Please Follow These Guidelines:

•Project 412 will provide PVC pipe frames which must be used as the base of your Color Pop. No mannequins may be used. Entries that use mannequins will not be accepted or displayed.

•Designs must be family-friendly and appropriate for all audiences. Entries that are not in good taste, political in nature, or contain brand advertising will not be accepted or displayed.

•Design materials used must be able to withstand any type of weather – snow, sleet, wind, rain! No cardboard is allowed. Any sealants used must be put on prior to installation at the garden. Any piece that deteriorates beyond acceptable condition will be removed.
