- **Event Name**: "Navajo/Dene Rock Art" lecture given by Richard Jenkinson, an independent researcher.
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 22 Nov, 2025 at 02:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Navajos occupied the Dinetah region of northwestern New Mexico from the 1600s to about 1750. They were joined by Puebloans from the east, many of whom were escaping the Spanish reoccupation after the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. When the two cultures merged, Navajo culture changed into something new. New ceremonies were created that continue to be performed into the present. On the canyon walls of the Dinetah area are petroglyphs and pictographs that depict characters related to the mythology and ceremonies of the Navajo culture. This presentation will look at some of this imagery and its relationship to Navajo mythology and the healing ceremonies of the culture. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will be held after the lecture to meet and greet the speaker.
