Then, with all the materials you need provided, we will spend time creating our own photocollages. Enjoy the ambiance of the residence as you explore one of the forms of entertainment that would have been practiced at the time of Terrace Hill's construction. If you would like to bring your own photos to further personalize your collage, you are more than welcome to. This is not required to participate. The registration fee includes collage materials and refreshments.A Little Background:The art of photocollage was incredibly popular in the Victorian Era. Combining photography, illustration, water color painting, and more the Victorians would create scenes that were often humorous, serious, absurd or entertaining. Used to express many different facets of life at the time, these collages were kept in albums with some being shared between friends, and others being made only for its creator to enjoy.

                "description": "Terrace Hill is an architectural marvel that was built as a private home in 1869 for Benjamin Franklin Allen and his family. It was eventually sold to Frederick Marion Hubbell in 1884 and was occupied by members of the Hubbell family for seven decades. In 1971, the Hubbell family graciously donated the home to the State of Iowa, and now Terrace Hill is the official Iowa Governor’s Residence. In 2003, Terrace Hill was designated as a National Historic Landmark.Terrace Hill is open for tours March through December and is closed on State holidays. Guided Tours are given by reservation only and must be made 48 hours in advance. Please call 515-281-7205 to make a reservation.
