Course Description
Tens of millions of adults are at risk for breathing-related sleep disorders. Millions of children are growing into health problems because of unrecognized craniofacial dystrophy. Dentists are the front line of a new wave of healthcare providers focused on addressing respiration as the fundamental of health. In this busy day, learners will appreciate the key role they must play in identification, diagnosis, and management of breathing and airway support at every age. Dentists are the only part of healthcare who can recognize growth and development problems in young children, assess adults for jaw movement and function, order a custom mandibular advancement device, and manage ongoing airway problems in adults. We can coordinate airway support with oral health preventive efforts to improve health at many levels. Today’s technology allows greater insight into physiology than ever before, simpler, faster, and cheaper.

*Understand common sleep medicine terminology and important biosignals related to sleep and intermittent hypoxia

*Discuss with their team and their patients the importance of addressing poor breathing both day and night and make action plans to include breathing support protocols as part of everyday dentistry
*Begin therapy on select patients with confidence matching a custom device to their needs
*Assess their own body oxygen level tolerance score and how to improve it.
