Course Description
Achieving optimal soft tissue health is essential for long-term restorative success, whether around natural teeth or implants. This comprehensive course, led by Dr. LeRoy Horton, DDS, DICOI, provides both theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience in soft tissue grafting techniques. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of gingival and mucosal anatomy, explore key soft tissue management concepts, and develop surgical skills through hands-on training using pig jaw models.
This course is designed for restorative and implant-focused clinicians looking to improve their soft tissue grafting skills. By integrating lecture-based learning with hands-on training, participants will develop practical techniques to enhance esthetic and functional outcomes in restorative dentistry.

Hands-on Objectives:
*Practicing connective tissue harvesting techniques, including de-epithelialized free gingival grafts (FGG), wedge technique, and trap door method
*Preparing recipient sites using pouching and tunneling techniques
*Working with allogenic and xenogenic materials
Meet Your Speaker: LeRoy Horton, DDS, MS, DICOI
Dr. Horton is the Director of the Periodontal and Implant Curriculum at Pacific Northwest University (PNWU). Originally from Athens, Greece, Dr. Horton moved to the United States as a teenager and settled in the Tacoma, WA area. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Pacific Lutheran University before attending the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 2007.
After 14 years as a private practice owner, Dr. Horton sold his practice and pursued specialty training in periodontics at Oregon Health Sciences University, where he also obtained a master’s degree in Periodontal Science.
Dr. Horton is board certified in implantology as a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology (DICOI) and maintains a busy lecturing schedule nationwide. He currently serves as the Chair of the Scientific Committee for the National Dental Association and is an active leader in his local dental community, having previously served as Treasurer and currently as President-Elect of the Seattle King County Dental Society, with plans to assume the presidency.
A passionate educator, Dr. Horton believes that excellence in any field stems from a deep love for it, and he is truly dedicated to teaching.
