Iowa's delectable cuisine is quintessentially Midwestern, grounded in its rich farming heritage and spiced with diverse ethnic influences. In this Ask the Expert, dig in as we serve up Iowa's tastiest traditions.From the chili &amp; cinnamon rolls phenomenon to Maid-Rites, discover the remarkable stories behind Iowa's classics and savor a smorgasbord of other unique Iowa food traditions. Pull up a chair, gain a few cooking tips and relish what you missed in history class in this fascinating presentation by Darcy Maulsby, author, farmer, speaker, and avid home cook. This program is based on Darcy's book, A Culinary History of Iowa: Sweet Corn, Pork Tenderloins, Maid-Rites and More.Darcy earned her journalism/communications degree and Master of Business Administration degree (with a marketing emphasis) from Iowa State University. After working in communications and public relations for various companies in the Des Moines metro, she became an entrepreneur. She has run her marketing/communications company, Darcy Maulsby &amp; Co., full time since 2002. Darcy applies her storytelling skills as she works with clients including the Iowa Soybean Association, the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce, as well as various ag and urban companies across the country.Darcy is proud to be part of a farm family that operates a Century Farm in Calhoun County near Lake City and Yetter. She’s a commissioner with the Calhoun County Soil &amp; Water Conservation District. Darcy often writes stories about the food-to-fork connection and the link between health soil, healthy food and healthy people for clients like the Iowa Food &amp; Family Project.This is a free program, but advance registration is required as space is limited.                 "description": "Terrace Hill is an architectural marvel that was built as a private home in 1869 for Benjamin Franklin Allen and his family. It was eventually sold to Frederick Marion Hubbell in 1884 and was occupied by members of the Hubbell family for seven decades. In 1971, the Hubbell family graciously donated the home to the State of Iowa, and now Terrace Hill is the official Iowa Governor’s Residence. In 2003, Terrace Hill was designated as a National Historic Landmark.Terrace Hill is open for tours March through December and is closed on State holidays. Guided Tours are given by reservation only and must be made 48 hours in advance. Please call 515-281-7205 to make a reservation.
